Davey Graham, 1940—2008
Legendary British folk guitarist Davey Graham died yesterday after being diagnosed with lung cancer some weeks ago. Graham is credited with popularizing fingerstyle guitar playing and DADGAD tuning for guitars—both of which had a tremendous influence on British rock in the 60s; and both of which point to Belog’s interest in Graham, his literate and surprisingly soulful use of Middle Eastern modes and playing styles in his music. Along with contemporaries like Sandy Bull and Robbie Basho, Graham played some of the prettiest blue eyed Persian music I’ve ever heard.
